Philtronics donates 10 iPads to local setting for remote learning

Jan 12, 2021
Philtronics is a Contract Electronic Manufacturer (CEM) based in Hirwaun near Aberdare, which provides outsource electronic manufacturing services. Over the past 17 years, we have been a key supplier of full turnkey product into the Global Semiconductor & Wafer Fabrication sector. The company has grown and developed its skills base to become a “one stop shop” for contract electronic assembly.

Simon Pritchard, owner of Philtronics Group, said “The past 12 months have been very challenging for everyone. As a parent, I am fully aware of the difficulties faced by teachers and parents in supporting children’s education. Philtronics Group core activities lie in the development and manufacture of smart technology. It is pleasing to be able to assist a local organisation with additional technology support for remote learning. Wales is quickly becoming a leader in innovation. It’s key that the next generation are given the right tools to take advantage of this and to see those opportunities being made available to everyone.”

Financial Director Anne Pritchard added: “As a business, we are already committed to supporting vulnerable children with regular fundraising events for Action for Children. Making sure the funds translate into actions in the local community is at the forefront of our minds. Ensuring children who are currently unable to go to school have the right resources to carry on learning remotely falls into the same category. We are indeed a technology company always looking to develop and build the next innovation and our staff make this happen. We work with the University of South Wales and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and use both their apprenticeship programs, namely the Network75 Degree Apprenticeship programme & the Aspire Shared Apprenticeship Programme. With a total of 4 apprentices currently studying a combination of Electronics & Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, we are committed to developing young technicians by providing hands-on experience and in doing so, helping us fill the skills gap. There is no doubt these young candidates need a solid knowledge base to carry on their journey in further education. Everyone should be able to get access to Google Classroom and other platforms used for remote learning during the lockdown and we hope this donation will help more local disadvantaged students complete their online learning objectives.”
